Julie Gilbert, MD

Dr. Julie Gilbert received her medical degree at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, Texas in 1991 and completed a residency program in Family Practice in Edgewood, Kentucky in 1994. She moved to the Salem area in 1995 where she has enjoyed a busy practice in Family Medicine at WVP-Keizer for over 20 years.

Because of her passion for primary prevention, in 2014 she became Board Certified in Obesity Medicine. With the support of WVP, she developed a clinic dedicated to the treatment of patients with obesity. Grateful for what the last four years has taught her she is embarking on a new venture with the start of Oregon Weight and Wellness, PC. She has assembled a team of dedicated professionals to come alongside and assist patients in pursuing their weight and health goals.

Rachelle Mathios
Certified Health and Wellness Coach

Rachelle Mathios

Rachelle Mathios graduated from Oregon State University with a Bachelor of Science. She received her initial coaching certification from the Wellcoaches School of Coaching in 2020. She has since completed additional training and certification with the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, Whole Food,Plant-Based Nutrition, Culinary Medicine and Culinary Coaching (CHEF), and Group Coaching and she received her board certification from the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC) in the spring of 2021.

After 10+ years raising her family and gaining experience in various fields, she worked as a medical assistant for a local family physician. She soon discovered her true purpose was to work as a Health and Wellness Coach where she could blend her passion and experience with health and well-being with her compassion for people who are suffering and wanting to prevent or reverse lifestyle-related, chronic diseases.

Rachelle and her husband of 25 years spend most of their free time outdoors gardening, hiking, trail running, skiing, camping, and fishing with their two young adult children, family and friends.

Meghan Handy

Meghan Handy graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. After figuring out that her heart wasn’t in business and government finance and that she really wanted to work with people on improving their lives, she pursued her passion of health and nutrition and received a second Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from Arizona State University. Meghan completed her health coach certification with the American Council on Exercise after moving to Salem in November of 2019.

Meghan believes strongly that health coaches are most effective when they work alongside an individual in order to help them live their healthiest and happiest life. She is extremely excited to partner with Dr. Gilbert and the team at Oregon Weight and Wellness to help those in Salem and the surrounding areas take control of their health and their lives.

Stephanie Husk, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker

Stephanie Husk, LCSW

Stephanie Husk holds a Masters Degree in Social Work from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. She is certified as a Clinical Social Worker and has been a mental health and behavioral specialist for the past 24 years.

Stephanie helps people reach their health goals with compassion and respect. She understands that health issues are complex and that a holistic approach is necessary for success.

She works from a bio/psycho/social/spiritual framework and encourages patients toward a strength-based approach to life. Stephanie maintains her license through continuing education, taking classes dealing with subjects relevant to the health care profession.

Melissa Hedstrom
MS NTP RYT

Melissa Hedstrom

Melissa has a master degree in Health Education. She taught at Western Oregon University and then into corporate fitness and wellness while raising a family. She is a certified Nutritional Therapist, CrossFit certified, and holds a 500 hour Registered Yoga Training along with 23 years of experience. Melissa has continued her studies and certifications to include trauma informed yoga and yoga for chronic pain. She began her private practice in 2012. Currently, Melissa does speaking engagements, sees individual clients, teaches classes, and contracts with medical practices and organizations in Salem.

Melissa brings together her years of study and experience, creating a unique depth of support to help people rewire for the health and healing that they need and desire. She weaves together the healing practice of yoga, functional movement, whole food nutritional therapy, and mind body connection to support the whole person on their journey.
